Crossing The Line

It all started as an assignment. I had no idea who you were until your dossier came across my desk. Little did I know I would eat, sleep and breathe you for the next several months. Watching your every move, I began to learn your routine. I noticed that you nervously giggle when a woman is showing interest and you brush back your hair with your hand when you’re losing at poker. It was all just part of the job.

Then things changed. I wasn’t just watching my screen idly wishing I could join you for one of those lonely dinners or be on the other end of the line when you talked on the phone. I was on a train bound for Paris with you. You kissed me and told me that I just saved your life… I broke all of the rules when I found myself slowly but surely falling in love with you. You weren’t just a job anymore.

  3. Steve R. Grossley III says:

Crossing the line shows how one, though committed to their craft, can have a change of heart when it comes to the innocence of love and compassion. I was moved by the writing. With it being written on Valentine’s day moved me even more. I felt like I was the one with the change of heart and not following my craft. A moving piece, truly.
